On March 31st, 2019, Ermias Asghedom, known as Nipsey Hussle, was shot and killed. He was murdered in front of his clothing store, The Marathon, in Los Angeles, California. The Los Angeles native was best known for his work as a rapper, community activist and entrepreneur.

His death made all of Hip Hop standstill with an outpour of support from fans and celebrities alike throughout social media. Many hip hop artists pledged not to release new music until Nipsey Hussle was laid to rest to show their respect for the late rapper’s tragic passing and in honor of his positive impact within his community.

Nipsey Hussle’s death highlighted the need to end senseless gun violence and made many question the promotion of gun use within Hip Hop. Other’s took this as a sign to reflect on their actions and how they affect their own community.

We wanted to take the time to pay our respects to the late rapper who promotes positivity throughout his community and the Hip Hop culture. New York has been a pinnacle for not only hip hop but the arts. We wanted to create something that captured the energy of this moment in hip hop by combining their essence of the West Coast with a raw New York attitude.
